Rob Ryan Projects Is a building design, interior design and property development company focused on bespoke residential projects.

Rob Ryan Projects was appointed to design the complete refurbishment of a Victorian Cottage in South Melbourne. The house is part of a row of heritage Victorian timber terraces, restricting the extent of change possible and requiring a creative solutions to maximise the sites’ potential.

Our client required additional space for their young family and needed quiet, reflective spaces as well as open living areas that captured natural daylight that connected to the rear yard.

Our approach was to create a scheme that was sympathetic to the existing house, whilst creating a new contemporary interior and exterior at the rear. Exploring opportunities to increase internal volume through double height spaces and natural light penetration ensured the narrow site would not feel enclosed. Large expanses of glazing allow for a seamless connection between the interior and rear yard.
